I’ve always had a soft spot for photography. I borrowed my mother’s camera in high school and eventually bought my own. These days, I mostly use my phone (it’s amazing how good those have gotten), but I still pull out my years old DSLR from time to time.
Mostly, I have pictures organized by photosets, but I’ve started adding a few ‘meta sets’ like Mini Worlds, Bugs etc (macros), and Fungus Among Us.
Here are a few more Photosynths from Seattle, this time from the Seattle Public Library. I’ll admit to being more than a little impressed with the place. Why don’t we have something like this in Indiana?
First, we have the Seattle Public Library from the atrium overlook (there’s a little platform you can sort of see if you turn to the right which I’m guessing is designed for exactly this sort of thing):
While I was at Usenix/FOCI, I met up with my parents who were in Portland anyways for a wedding. Since I had Tuesday off from the conference, we decided to explore Seattle. I didn’t have my camera with me, but I did have my iPhone, so I decided to play with the (amazing) Photosynth app.
Yes, it’s Microsoft and Apple products working together, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with it!
A new set of experimenting with light painting while out on a walk in Bloomington, IN.
I went to the ACM CCS conference in Chicago and took a bunch of pictures while I was there. There are several experiments with long exposures and HDR shots; they were fun to edit.

This is the first set, from Phoenix. We met up with my cousin who works for Intel there. Most are from a drive up to the area just north of Phoenix.

This is the second set, from the Grand Canyon (and a few from just before or after). This was one our longest stops so it’s also probably going to be the largest photoset.

This is the third set, from the Hoover Dam (plus the rest stop before). A fair few fewer than the Grand Canyon, but I thing there are a few fine dam pictures.

This is the fourth set, from Amboy Crater. It wasn’t on our schedule and we didn’t even know it was there, but when we saw a sign saying ‘Crater’ we had to stop. Turns out it’s a volcano. Who’da thunk?

Number nine: Twilight. It’s a combination of Forks, La Push, and Port Angeles. Definitely wasn’t my primary reason for going, but I’ll admit that La Push was pretty awesome. And it was neat being on the very northern end of the country.

The fifth set, up the coast. The first half are from Joshua Tree National Forest near Twentynine Palms where my cousin is stationed. The latter half are from Santa Barbara where we stopped for the beach and the night.
