Doctor Who: Season 8 Doctor Who #8

And away we go!

Suddenly, Twelve! Capaldi is such a different feeling doctor from either Ten or Eleven. It’s really jarring to get into, but as his seasons go on, I really do think he’s right up there with all of them for bests.

And at least to tide us over, we still have Clara–now finally past her arc as the Impossible Girl.

Overall, this is quite the solid season. There are a few gems and I do love the building mystery and eventual reveals around Missy. It’s not as huge a season arc as we’ve had, but it’s still a solid one.

Deep Breath brings back the Paternoster Gang (always nice) and introduces Missy.

Into the Dalek introduces Danny for better or for worse, and gives us another iteration of a ‘good’ Dalek.

Robot of Sherwood gives us Robin Hood. Which, for some reason, the Doctor refuses to believe is real. That’s a funny one. And I do love Doctor Who’s take on the archery contest.

Listen is a weird take on the monster under the bed and time travel. Timey whimey causal loops et al.

Time Heist is a lot of fun. One of my favorites this season. The perfect bank–the perfect heist. With a crew that has to have their memories wiped in order to even get into the door…

The Caretaker. Clara trying to live two lives–and the Doctor barging in.

Kill the Moon, which is … just kind of weird? How in the world would the egg being a moon work with any other episode really.

Mummy on the Orient Express is just excellent. Murder mystery done Doctor Who style. My other favorite this season.

Flatline which is funny because the Tardis gets even smaller on the outside. And creepy in analogies to flatland.

Dark Water / Death in Heaven–where Missy is revealed, death has never been the answer, and a main character finds out about an afterlife first hand.

Onward to season 9!
