A Parade of Horribles Dungeon Crawler Carl #8

Hazards: Well, we have the hail and the gatekeeper monster, whatever that might be. But I’d suggest that our biggest hazard is the fact that this bucket has to be driven by a cat this time.

And we’re back into the universe of Dungeon Crawler Carl!

On one side, we have floor ten and it’s full on Wacky Races style. We have crawlers (and now NPCs) given random cars (or giant living mounts)–Carl and Donut for example get a food truck (spoilers). And then they have to race. Just get to the finish line.

Should be easy? Right?

Of course not, nothing in this world is ever easy.

I actually liked the ‘dungeon gimmick’ of this floor well enough. It’s one of the most ‘gamelike’ LitRPG parts of this series that we have less. And although things are breaking down, those have always been one of the things that sets this series apart for me.

Speaking of breaking down–man the wider universe around the Dungeon Crawls if falling apart even faster than the dungeon itself. I actually really like how that’s being handled. We get bits and pieces of what’s going on outside, but for the most part, we don’t know any more than Carl or Donut anyone else in the dungeon knows. But oh, things are not going well out there.

And oh, floor eleven. The titular Parade of Horribles.

Uh, Carl? Are you fucking sure? Holy shit.

Oy.

Oy vey, this series.

Things are really coming to a head in the dungeon. Out of millions, we start this book with tens of thousands left. And now…

Maybe we will die today. But if we do, then we will die together, and that’s more than most people get. There’s no such thing as a sad ending if it’s by the side of the people who make you happy.

Well. I suppose we’ll just to see how long things can possibly hold together.

I really enjoyed this book. And now I have the bummer of being once again caught up! Oh well, until next time.
