What is this? New Dresden Files?! Count me in!

Twelve Months takes place in the year (heh) after Peace Talks and Battle Ground. And in a lot of ways, it’s a book about healing and moving on. Which, after the absolute mess that Battle Ground made of Chicago in general and Dresden in particular?

“A wizard is never late,” I muttered. “He arrives as soon as he’s dealt with his PTSD.”

Yeah. Dresden needed this book. We needed this book.

Of course, that doesn’t mean things are ever going to be quiet. In addition to recovering, we still have a city without powers, dark things prowling the streets, wheeling and dealing between the Accorded Nations and Thomas is still locked up. Oh. And Dresden is still engaged to Lara Raith–so it’s about time they started courting.

I love seeing Dresden grow. Not just in power–although he’s done a lot of that–but as a person. He’s been through so much with so many of the other characters of this series. And seeing them grow and change throughout it is awesome. I especially like seeing the scenes between Dresden/Mab and Dresden/Lara. Which I suppose is exactly the reason this book exists in the first place.

“Stupidity,” Mab mused. “Courage. The only difference is the outcome.”

I’m looking forward to what comes next–especially as it’s supposed to be the long awaited Mirror Mirror. With 18 books now though, the reread/relisten is getting to be a lot. Worth it though!
