How many Fantastic Four movies is that, just since 200? Four?

I think I’ve actually seen them all. One even had a sequel And I’m not sure I can remember anything from any of them really.

This one has a nice cast, a fun, well done retro-futuristic aesthetic, found family, and some future/world building potential. It’s not the best MCU movie by any standard, but I think it might just be the best Fantastic Four film.

The casting was well done. Pedro Pascal actually plays a pretty smart Reed Richards, which can be hard to pull off. Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn pull off siblings well, and I enjoyed Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm.

Having Galactus as the villain, and then turning him into an admittedly giant of a monster, but nowhere near planet eating scale works. How do you fight something the size of a planet? The size of a skyscraper, that works.

The family focus?

Reed Richards: [in the trailer] Before we went up the first time, you couldn’t turn invisible. Ben wasn’t a rock. And Johnny never caught fire.
Sue Storm: Ben has always been a rock. Johnny is… Johnny. And I am right here. Whatever life throws at us, we’ll face it together, as a family.

Really though, between this and Thunderbolts* (this one far more strongly and it’s been floating around for a while now), we really feel like we’re just setting up the multiversal conflict of the upcoming Doctor Doom… and I’m not sure if they’re going to pull it off again.

Reed Richards: [giving a school lecture] This equation not only confirms alternate dimensions, it suggests that parallel Earths exist on different dimensional planes…
[sees his students are bored]
Reed Richards: Who wants to see a big explosion?
[his students perk up]

I suppose we’ll just have to see!
