Matilda

Matilda: Daddy, you’re a crook.
Harry Wormwood: What?
Matilda: This is illegal.
Harry Wormwood: [hands the car drill to Mikey, then walks to Matilda] You make money? Do you have a job?
Matilda: No, but don’t people need good cars? Can’t you sell good cars, Dad?
Harry Wormwood: Listen, you little wiseacre: I’m smart, you’re dumb; I’m big, you’re little; I’m right, you’re wrong, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

I think I’ve seen this movie before? If not, I’m sure I’ve read the book. But it’s been a long time either way.

Overall, it’s a fun enough movie. It’s pretty much the stereotypical story of ‘kid is bullied by (way over the top) adults / kid is right / kid ends up winning the day’. Only with a touch of unexplained (in the movie version) psychic powers (which is fun) in the mix.

It’s a fun movie.

It’s still really hard to watch Trunchbull. Which I suppose is entirely the point. To a lesser extent the Wormwood family dynamics–that part at least is depressingly believable.

Onward!
