It’s been a while since I watched these movies. But hey, when you’re on a plane for five hours and they have a screen full of movies? Worth!
In a nutshell–it’s a quintessential heist movie. Gather the crew, plan the heist, deal with what goes wrong, and walk away in the end victorious. And then show the audience how in the world you actually pulled it off.
Building the crew? Great.
Danny: Ten oughta do it, don’t you think?. Rusty: [Stares away in silence]. Danny: You think we need one more?. Rusty: [remains silent with his head leaning on top of his folded arms while hunched over on the bar]. Danny: You think we need one more.. Rusty: [remains silent]. Danny: All right, we’ll get one more.. Rusty: [Blinks].
Clooney and Pitt drive this.
The heist? It’s straightforward at first–or so you think it is.
Saul: I have a question, say we get into the cage, and through the security doors there and down the elevator we can’t move, and past the guards with the guns, and into the vault we can’t open…
Rusty: Without being seen by the cameras.
Danny: Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot to mention that.
Saul: Yeah well, say we do all that… uh… we’re just supposed to walk out of there with $150,000,000 in cash on us, without getting stopped?
[pause as everyone turns to look at Danny]
Danny: Yeah.
Saul: [nervously] Oh. Okay.
But I appreciate the twist. (spoilers?) It’s the sort of thing you could have seen coming and totally works on a re-watch… but the first time, blink and you’ll miss it.
Man, that cast was stacked. Geoge Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Bernie Mac, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon. Probably others I’m forgetting. And they just look like they’re having a good time in their roles, especially Clooney and Pitt. Which is a fun thing to see.
Oh, this is a fun movie. I’m going to have to watch the rest of them all now, aren’t I?
