The Battle of the Labyrinth Percy Jackson and the Olympians #4 Camp Half-Blood Chronicles #4

The Labyrinth. Daedalus. Return of the Minotaur. Oh, this book has a lot going for it.

I love the setting. It’s interesting seeing more of the ways demigods can go–and have gone in the past. Not all demigods are heroes–which we’ve already seen–but they’re not always villains either. And the same with monsters; we’ve already met Tyson. And for that matter, gods and titans.

There are still good guys and bad guys. But everything is starting to get just a bit more complicated, which I appreciate in the series.

Speaking of which, we’re really getting into the early romance now.

Be careful of love. It’ll twist your brain around and leave you thinking up is down and right is wrong.

Especially complicated, as we get a lot more Rachel Dare (a mortal, but seeing as she can see through the Mist, there’s something going on there) in this one.

Rachel: You’re a half-blood, too?

Annabeth: Shhh! Just announce it to the world, how about?

Rachel: Okay. Hey, everybody! These two aren’t human! They’re half Greek god!…They don’t seem to care.

Oh, the snipping between those two. It’s fun. Even if it’s a certainly a bit of timing when you’re up against the end of the world…

Then again, we’re counting on a bunch of early teens to save the world.

Onward!
