Predator Predator #1

Well, I’m just about to Alien vs. Predator, so… I guess I should catch the Predator movies, along with Alien!

Much like Alien, this is a movie that came out a bit before my time, so I’ve never actually seen it. And just like Alien (Aliens even more so), I was kind of amazed at how many lines I’ve quoted any number of times came from this movie…

Dutch: If it bleeds, we can kill it.

In a nutshell, we have a team of commandos on a poorly specified rescue mission in the jungles of Central America. Only, instead of the hunters… they’re about to become the hunted.

Anna: When I was little, we found a man. He looked like - like, butchered. The old women in the village crossed themselves, and whispered crazy things, strange things. “El diablo cazador de hombres”. Only in the hottest years this happens. And this year, it grows hot. We begin finding our men. We found them sometimes without their skin… and sometimes much, much worst. “El que hace trofeos de los hombres” means “the demon who makes trophies of men”.

It’s light on plot, but that’s sort of the point. It’s an action movie through and through with a touch of sci fi. All through, you know there are going to be guns and explosions (and there’s one scene with a ton of both that’s just fun to watch on a big screen), most of the cast is going to die, and in the end, the lone survivor is going to have one heck of a case of PTSD.

Which is pretty much what we get.

I do love Schwarzenegger in this. He’s so young looking–but was already 40 when this movie was made. And the rest of the commandos are fun as well, even if… somewhat one dimensional. The Predator tech looks a bit dated now, but it does have it’s own charm, even so.

Overall, a fun movie. And I totally see why they wanted to eventually make that big Alien vs. Predator faceoff…

Onward!
